during college i would put on disney or studio ghibli movies before going to bed. i’d set my laptop up on my nightstand, get comfy under the covers, and fall asleep listening to all the beauty and magic.
i am being completely serious.
i still do this.
some people fall asleep to music, others to the tv, others to the deafening silence.
on good days, sunday afternoons for example, i fall asleep to the heroic sounds of professional american football.
bambi is one of my absolute favorites.
((MORE COMING-OF-AGE—see?!?!? iiiiiii told you. so typical, lina; so typical.))
flower is adorable.
he can call me “flower” if he wants to.
anddd the music is so pretties during the rainstorm. and bambi’s father is so regal and noble and beautiful. and the artwork is just phenomenal.
disney owns my heart and soul.
i’m happy and proud to be a product of disney movies and stories. if it makes me a lovesick, semi-naive, whimsical, free-spirited daydreamer—so be it.
this is me.
i think some disney movie watching is in order soon. there are sooohhh many to choose from. i’ve acquired quite the collection. over thanksgiving, imma pack those babies up and bring them to austin. my roomies love disney movies, too. perfect friends are perfect.
the other night we listed our three favorites.
cody: what are you three favorites? you can only have three.
me: definitely beauty and the beast and sleeping beauty.
me: ugh! the third one is hard. you have to make sure to pick the right one bc it’s the last one you can name! …ummmmmm. fuck it, imma have to say lilo and stitch. i would be so sad if i could never watch that movie again.
mae: okay, obviously: beauty and the beast. robin hood. andd… ugh, picking the third one is hard.
me: make it a good one!!!
mae: iiiiiiiiiii don’t know. the little mermaid? the music is so good.
[mae and cody start singing part of your world and i’m rolling my eyes, correcting the lyrics.]
mae: iiiiiiiiiiii really love mulan. i think, MULAN!!!
mae: YES, REALLY!!! you can sing along to every song. i’ll make a man out of youuuu!!! anddd eddie murphy is so funny!!! what? are you going to tell me you’re a sheep, now?!?!
me: oh my god, of course! you totally love asians. iiiiiiiiii knew it. btw when that movie came out in 7th grade EVERY ONE started calling me mulan. srsly.
cody: of course they did, rina!!!
i love them all. srsly, how do you even pick just three?!?!?
what about the lion king and lady and the tramp and aladdin anddd oh my gawwwddd, i love robin hood and the fox and the hound?!?!?! oliver and company and sword in the stone?!?!?!
get on my level.
disney movies ftw.
thursday #6 win of the day: cody doesn’t work till 8pm tonight so he is cooking us noms for din din. he is sooohhh sweet. i am starvinggg. so much excite.

cody: did you just eat a piece of potato?
me: ((shaking head “no”)) mayyybe…
mae: ((laughing)) they’re not cooked, linaaahhh…
a minute later
me: uncooked potatoes taste funny.
mae: bc it’s uncooked!!!
bwahahahahhaa i love us. they’re my family and they are awesome and amazing. dinner, baseball, and “dessert” in honor of my boyfriend, timmy lincecum. wink wink. you know how i do.
and why does he hang out with those retarded gorillas, as you called them? because any one of them, if he asked them to, would take a fucking bat to your head, okay? it’s called loyalty. —sean ((robin williams)) from good will hunting
something i admire the most in people is their love, devotion, and loyalty to their friends.
mae and i were just talking about loyalty—supporting a friend when you disapprove/disagree with what they’re doing; respecting them enough to understand their right to choose/decide for themselves; being there for them when shit hits the fan; not telling them “i told you so” even though you probably warned them; making yourself available; giving them what they need.
my friends are the most amazing people i know. everyday each of them show me just how right i am about them. it’s not a light matter, being a friend—it’s a lot of time, responsibility, awareness, compassion, understanding, work. i don’t treat friendships lightly, no, not at all—that much is obvious. it makes my heart happy knowing there are amazing people in my life doing amazing things for others.
relevant: i hadn’t seen cody in a couple of days. we keep missing each other bc he works nights. i saw him for the first time in over two days ((biggg deal for the broadhurst-tran famILY)) last night when he got home from work. i was sitting on the porch talking on the phone to an out of town friend.
cody: is that you, rinaaahhh?!?!
me: hahaha yes, codddyyyy! it’s me!!!
he walked by and walked into the house but not before kissing me on the top of the head.
cody: i’m so happy you’re home! i missed you!
after i got off the phone and went into the house, cody ran up to me and hugged me. it was the sweetest thing.
cody: i was so worried about you bc you didn’t pick up my phone calls and i haven’t seen you in a couple of days. i knew you were okay though bc mae would’ve called if you weren’t. if you’re ever in trouble, you better call me.
srsly. amazing friend is amazing.
so here is a small shout out to all my friends, all the amazing people in my life—thank you for being you, for being admirable, for being amazing. you inspire me everyday. hugs.
