love at first sight. i was at once smitten, my heart all a flutter—i absolutely love tangled.
rapunzel might be my favorite disney princess. we are clearly kindred spirits.
the whole time—the whole time—both mae and dar kept telling me—with squinty eyes, judging eyes—that she is a lot like someone they know… with the hair… and dances circles… and speaks in absolutes… a little ball of enthusiasm, excitement, and emotions.
…i wonder who they are talking about.
for the record, i cried four times. mae lifted up my glasses ((and 3D glasses)) just to see the tears.
the thing is—and you know this—i am a sucker for birthdays and i was oh so happy for her. she had the best birthday ever. it was everything she ever wanted and when she was sitting in that little boat before the releasing of the lanterns, my fucking god, i knew that feeling—I KNOW THAT FEELING.
what if it isn’t everything you dreamt it would be?
and oh my god, what if it IS everything you dreamt it would be?
when you’re right there. on the edge of something. how do you feel? i thought i might explode. i was so giddy.
those fucking lanterns.
BEST DAY EVERRR!!!
during college i would put on disney or studio ghibli movies before going to bed. i’d set my laptop up on my nightstand, get comfy under the covers, and fall asleep listening to all the beauty and magic.
i am being completely serious.
i still do this.
some people fall asleep to music, others to the tv, others to the deafening silence.
on good days, sunday afternoons for example, i fall asleep to the heroic sounds of professional american football.
bambi is one of my absolute favorites.
((MORE COMING-OF-AGE—see?!?!? iiiiiii told you. so typical, lina; so typical.))
flower is adorable.
he can call me “flower” if he wants to.
anddd the music is so pretties during the rainstorm. and bambi’s father is so regal and noble and beautiful. and the artwork is just phenomenal.
disney owns my heart and soul.
i’m happy and proud to be a product of disney movies and stories. if it makes me a lovesick, semi-naive, whimsical, free-spirited daydreamer—so be it.
this is me.
i think some disney movie watching is in order soon. there are sooohhh many to choose from. i’ve acquired quite the collection. over thanksgiving, imma pack those babies up and bring them to austin. my roomies love disney movies, too. perfect friends are perfect.
the other night we listed our three favorites.
cody: what are you three favorites? you can only have three.
me: definitely beauty and the beast and sleeping beauty.
me: ugh! the third one is hard. you have to make sure to pick the right one bc it’s the last one you can name! …ummmmmm. fuck it, imma have to say lilo and stitch. i would be so sad if i could never watch that movie again.
mae: okay, obviously: beauty and the beast. robin hood. andd… ugh, picking the third one is hard.
me: make it a good one!!!
mae: iiiiiiiiiii don’t know. the little mermaid? the music is so good.
[mae and cody start singing part of your world and i’m rolling my eyes, correcting the lyrics.]
mae: iiiiiiiiiiii really love mulan. i think, MULAN!!!
mae: YES, REALLY!!! you can sing along to every song. i’ll make a man out of youuuu!!! anddd eddie murphy is so funny!!! what? are you going to tell me you’re a sheep, now?!?!
me: oh my god, of course! you totally love asians. iiiiiiiiii knew it. btw when that movie came out in 7th grade EVERY ONE started calling me mulan. srsly.
cody: of course they did, rina!!!
i love them all. srsly, how do you even pick just three?!?!?

disney movies ftw.
Hula Teacher: Lilo, why are you all wet?
Lilo: It’s Sandwich Day.
Hula Teacher: [gives eyes, like “wtf is Sandwich Day?”]
Lilo: [inhales deeply] Every Thursday, I take Pudge, the fish a peanut butter sandwich…
Hula Teacher: “Pudge” is a fish?
Lilo: And today we were out of peanut butter. So I asked my sister what to give him, and she said “a tuna sandwich." I can’t give Pudge tuna!
[whispering] Do you know what tuna izzzzz?
Hula Teacher: Fish?
Lilo: [hysterical] IT’S FISH! IF I GIVE PUDGE TUNA, I’D BE AN ABOMINATION! I’M LATE BECAUSE I HAD TO GO TO THE STORE AND GET PEANUT BUTTER CAUSE ALL WE HAVE IS… IS… STINKIN’ TUNAAAHHH!!!
Hula Teacher: Lilo, Lilo, why is this so important to you?
Lilo: [calm] Pudge controls the weather.
Myrtle: You’re crazy…
[Lilo jumps on Myrtle, hits her, anddd BITES her.]
i LUVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVV lilo and stitch to the super duper max. aida and i watched last wknd and we were quoting it like mad crazy.
one of the best parts is when lilo meets stitch for the first time at the animal shelter and he raises his arm and says, “HAAAAAAAAAAIIIII” in that weird, creepy alien voice he has. it is awesome and aida and i do it allllll the time now.
the hula dancing scene about pudge, the fish is fking awesome. she is SO serious about what she is talking about and i really admire her for always being herself despite people thinking she’s a basketcase, which she kinda is. be you, be beautiful, lilo; i love you!
i love you, tiffer. i love you, aida. i am happy we can share such lovely things together.
*ps. jc calls my baby sister, tiffer as her middle name, michelle; just a little random fyi.
